UPDATE: the video edited and manipulated by blogger Andrew Breitenbach Bart, this was a speech in which she explained how race-based thinking must be overcome.
Ministry of Agriculture official, Shirley Sherrod, was fired after a video in which she makes racist comments, has been uploaded on the web. In the video, which takes place at an NAACP event, we hear Shirley Sherrod saying:
"The first time I was confronted with having a white farmer to save his farm work. He took a long time talking, but he tried to show me that he was superior to me. I know what he was doing. But he had come to me for help. What he did not know was he, as he spoke all the time trying to prove my superior to me, I was trying to decide how much help I could give him . I struggled with the fact that so many black people had lost their land, and here I was faced with having a white person to save their country to help.
So I gave him the full force of what I could do. I have enough so that when he, "I took the Ministry of Agriculture had sent him to me, either that or the Georgia Department of Agriculture. And, uh, he needed to go back and I tried to help him report. So I took him to a white lawyer …. So I thought if I take him to one of them, his own kind would provide for him. "
